In 2012, I lost a family member to suicide during a season when I had just welcomed my fourth child—and I couldn’t ignore how deeply that loss shaped the way I saw children. At a seminar soon after, I felt a clear pull to write a picture book that would help children believe in themselves, and I wrote my first draft on the flight home—despite having no experience. I had to figure everything out alone. It was difficult, to say the least. But today I guide writers through that same journey so they don’t have to do it alone.
