Helen Champagne

Helen Champagne was inspired to write this story in a children’s book writing class. She recalls, “One afternoon, I saw a ladybug in my garden with no spots. At the time, it was such a unique sighting for me and I found myself imagining the animated world of ladybugs. I wondered how this little bug would feel not having any spots. What would she say, and what would she do? The journey to embrace ‘otherness’ is how Lilianna, the ladybug with no spots, became a story for a class assignment.”

Helen lives in Ontario, Canada, and Lilianna, a Real Ladybug is her first book. She wrote this story to inspire children to appreciate and
celebrate the differences we all may have. She hopes to write more
stories to inspire children and to fill their imaginations with
wonder and joy.
