Spotlight: Little Stars Dancing in the Night

Eve Olive is a brand new children’s book author and an experienced architect, educator, and writer. After growing up in Africa, Eve has since moved back to her country of birth: the United States of America. She now uses her life experience to inspire children, including her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. To celebrate her debut title, Little Stars Dancing in the Night, we sat down to chat about the publishing process.

MIRIAM LAUNDRY: Hi Eve! Congratulations on your first children’s book! Can you tell us who it’s for and how you started writing it?

EVE OLIVE: Little Stars Dancing in the Night is for children ages three to eight years old. I started just over a year ago, I woke up one morning with these thoughts. It was rather funny and I just paid attention to this and I decided to just write and see what comes.

ML: What inspired you to become an author?

EO: I get these inspirations and I started writing them down. I didn’t really want to be an author necessarily, I just enjoy poems and stories and wrote a lot over the years.

ML: Why was it important to you to share this message in a children’s book?

EO: I've long been interested in life before birth and back in 2013 I published a book called Cosmic Child and that is an anthology of poems and writings over years that have a sense of pre-birth poems. So, that was a big undertaking that took about 5 years to get together. This continued as I have friends doing work with near death experiences and people come back with pre-birth awareness. So, it's a theme that is interesting to me, and it's a bit of a fantasy about the subject that forms the inspiration for this book.

ML: What was the biggest lesson you learned as you worked on the book?

EO: Always technology for me and getting familiar with it. I appreciate all the support from everyone along the way. This really couldn’t be possible without all the help I’ve received.

ML: It was such a pleasure to work with you on the book. Now, I always ask authors this question, because I’m curious to know — why did you join Publishing Mastermind?

EO: A friend sent me information about this out of the blue and I just followed up and it led me to this lovely program.

ML: Did anything in particular about the program stand out to you?

EO: Seeing it all come together towards the end with the pictures and the text. It's just such a thrill to see it born from my mind and navigating the challenges. So amazing to be part of the group, I appreciate that you aren’t alone at all and it's nice that you can have this beautiful individual story.

ML: Yes, I think the community aspect plays such an important role. It makes the journey all the more rewarding. If you could share a piece of advice with an aspiring author, what would you tell them?

EO: Listen to what's there when you wake up in the morning and act on your intuition.

ML: That’s a great point. I wonder how many book ideas have been lost because creators didn’t take notes in the middle of the night! Finally, what do you hope parents and children take away from your book?

EO: I hope they have faith in the fact that we are not just starting from conception, that we are someone else who needs a body on earth and provide a spiritual view of who we are and finding the right parents.

ML: Thank you, Eve, and congratulations once again.
